Terminal 3, Heathrow, London
The major refurbishment and new build project for Terminal 3 by Foster + Partners includes an extended public realm and forecourt designed by HED much of which sits beneath the dramatic ETFE canopy, 12m overhead.
In addition to serving Terminal 3 the space also provides the new entrance to the Virgin check in area.
Under the canopy the landscape contributes not only to wayfinding and the passage of travellers through the space but also provides much need seating for “meeting and greeting” through all hours as the ETFE canopy comes into its own at night and the multi-stemmed Maple trees find themselves bathed in a warm glow of coloured light.
Landscape assisted wayfinding continues out through the car park with the Red Maple and their stunning autumn colour that define the various arrival lanes and herald both the welcome experience as something logical and enjoyable.
