Terminal 1, Flughafen Frankfurt, Germany
HED supported Grimshaw first in competition and then in the design of the revitalised forecourt introducing coherence, light, space and greenery into the urban environment.
In doing so, HED recognised the adjacency of existing forest and brought that into the airport as glades under the trees, places to meet and greet, to pass through and relax. All as part of a large, central pedestrianised space, supplemented by amenities along it's length, which replaces the present kilometre-long strip of disorganised private and public transportation.
As a passenger's first and last impression of an airport, the rejuvenated forecourt is a fitting response to one of the largest transport hubs in Europe.

Given the importance of the forecourt ind efining passenger's first and last impression of the airport, the design strives to create an environment that inspires its users, and which the client and passengers alike can be proud of.
