Friars Walk, Newport, Wales
Newport is one of Wales’ fastest growing cities currently undergoing a comprehensive programme of regeneration, of which Friars Walk is a central part. Lying between the River Usk and Newport’s existing retail core, the scheme reconnects a disjointed part of the cityscape to create a cohesive, attractive and accessible urban realm.
The project reshapes the retail landscape of Newport with a new shopping centre, cinema, restaurants and bus interchange with a investment value of £110m. The public realm is defined by a new covered central arcade, pedestrianised streets and destination dining quarter close to the river’s edge.
