Wadi Rezeq Resort, Al Birdi, Libya
An arid Mediterranean style VIP resort of villas, hotel and sports facilities, Wadi Rezeq's villas and facilities cluster around a series of small bays on the North Coast of Libya.
The resort establishes a landscape infrastructure, by closely grouping the villas to form sheltered and shady courts and terraces overlooking the sea.
Using the inherently sustainable local technique of walls built to retain fertile, seasonal wadi wash, the planting is predominantly native drought tolerant species intended to enhance the local ecology and develop a sustainable landscape, which had been previously damaged by the extensive grazing of goats and sheep.
The walls become a feature of the design as they evolve from their original function into retaining walls and infinity pool edges, whose outlines mimic the imagined contours.
