2012 London Olympic Stadium, London
The Stadium, at the heart of the London Olympic Games hosted all athletics events as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, watched by millions of people around the world.
Hyland Edgar Driver was responsible for the design of the public realm associated with the stadium that sits at the south of the Olympic Park on an island site surrounded on three sides by waterways within easy walking distance of the Olympic Village and warm-up facilities.
The distinctive temporary surfacing was developed from the 2012 logo itself as a simple construct by striking lines out across the space from its faceted arrangement.
The 'Olympic gold' of the meadow planting was the result of many trials and months of careful planning, culminating in a stunning display seen over the course of the games.
